Album art for Sega Lugosi's Dead

Have you ever wondered what bizarre sounds like? I never have, but after listening to The Gothsicles‘ last album, I have really been thinking about it a lot. What is better than amazing skills combined with a not so particular voice in each and every song? Add a unusual theme, an Industrial [Goth] meets Videogame geek mixture. The result? One of the best albums I have ever heard.

There is one thing certain about Sega Lugosi’s Dead, it is brutal. An incredible synth-work, incredibly well-thought lyrics and a really great musical composition. An extra, probably more than one song will make you laugh until it hurts.

First thing I noticed after reading this album’s track list was the “story” it tried to tell (or scream in this case). I have been a fan of The Gothsicles for a really, really short time. I started listening to them about a month ago. After the first few tracks I knew this new album was going to be a monster.

If you give it a listen from beginning to end you will notice that, while it is a moderately fast album, each track is somehow related to the next one. It isn’t exactly a continuous album but it is more enjoyable in the right order. After listening the album a couple of times, it made me think how “ranty” it sounded. Because… you know, it really does.

One only needs to hear a couple of songs to realize what kind of geniuses work behind this project. The first track I heard (sample on MySpace) was “Nine Guys Freaking Out”, brutal sampling and synthesizers and the single most awesome vocal work there is. While the vocals remind me a litte t those of Mindless Self Indulgence, I can really tell they are different. Antisonant vocals that have little if nothing to do with the rhythm the song develops or has developed.

Words cannot simply describe how AWESOME this album is, if their music and vocals are incredible and at the same time bizarre; take a moment and pay attention to their lyrics. If you were born in the 80’s or the first half of the 90’s, you will really, really enjoy some of their songs. Although Sega Lugosi’s Dead has little videogame-related lyrics, there is material out there that will probably suffice your need.

I am also impressed with the amount of remixes this album has, I have not checked if a limited edition with an extra CD or something will be released, but it would definitely be worth checking out. As is this album. Great album tracks, great remixes and really, really awesome untitled tracks (there are!).

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLSSSSS.
